Case Study - UX10 Exam Chair

Monday, 11 September, 2023

For this busy hospital, traditional examination chairs and tables were no longer practical. The facility was undergoing significant growth and redevelopment but the existing building posed size and space challenges. They needed a cost-effective solution for examinations and treatment, with the flexibility to adapt to different patient and practitioner needs. They also needed a product that could multi-task for different situations, treatments and departments. Strength and safety were paramount, with the agility to access narrow doors, rooms and elevators.

We worked closely with the hospital to clarify their needs and design an examination chair and table in one – with clever features that take comfort and ease to new levels. From this, the UX10 Exam Chair was born. At every step, safety and efficiency were our focus. We removed foot controls to reduce tripping hazards, included drop sides and lower height adjustability for smooth and safe access and patient transfer, added larger casters for easier elevator access, and incorporated thick cushioning for extra comfort and pressure-injury compliance. We listened closely to the needs of hospital staff: simplifying handset controls, ensuring quick and easy supply servicing and spare parts, and maximising manoeuvrability. And it all comes in one compact, cost-effective, reliable and robust package.

The hospital now uses 80+ UX10 Exam Chairs around the clock – making life easier for caregivers, clinicians, and patients alike. They can be used across a range of general and specialist departments, including outpatient services, and allow for rapid emergency patient transfer and ‘quick release’ CPR positioning. With its design inspired by real-life medical, caregiver and patient needs, the UX10 Exam Chair has redefined examination tables and chairs. It is now a core product in Select’s range – and is helping Australia’s healthcare providers perform smoothly and efficiently, day in and day out.
